Mechanical Neck pain is evoked by sustained poor neck posture, movement of neck, and on palpation pain in cervical muscles without presence of any pathology. The study was a randomized controlled trial to examine the impact of different treatments, namely Ardh Matsyendrasana, OM chanting, Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation (PNF) and combined Ardh Matsyendrasana, OM chanting, and PNF, on subacute bilateral mechanical neck pain. Pressure pain threshold (PPT) and health-related quality of life in individuals experiencing neck pain were evaluated.
The study found that all three treatments had a significant positive effect on the PPT of cervical muscles sternocleidomastoid and rhomboids and health-related quality of life in individuals with subacute bilateral mechanical neck pain. However, combined Ardh Matsyendrasana, OM chanting, and PNF was found to be the most effective treatment in terms of improving pressure pain threshold, as well as improving health-related quality of life.
In conclusion, the study suggests that combined approach of PHYOG (Ardh Matsyendrasana, OM chanting, and PNF) can be effective treatments for subacute bilateral mechanical neck pain. However, the choice of treatment should depend on the specific needs and goals of the individual undergoing treatment.
