Abstract
Gas gangrene is the term used to describe necrotizing skin and soft tissue infection by gas forming organisms. In the modern era, this type of infection is rarely seen outside theatres of war. Patients often present in sepsis, shock or organ dysfunction. Without prompt therapy, gas gangrene has high mortality therefore early diagnosis and swift initiation of antibiotic therapy forms the cornerstone of management. Radical surgical therapy is usually required.
